Re: Hosta 'Rainbow's End'
Wow! That one IS gorgeous!!
Re: Hosta 'Rainbow's End'
Yes it is gorgeous. But like I said, there's more to like it. Superb substance and sun tolerant (this one has been getting a lot of sun this year)

'Rainbows End' IS NEW TO ME AND GORGEOUS. (Oops. Didn't mean to shout.) How large would I expect it to get as a mature plant? I'm beginning to be seriously out of space.

Re: Hosta 'Rainbow's End'
It's not too big. But it ain't no Blue Mouse Ears either. Somwehere between Small and Medium. It needs the same amount of space as a Hanky Panky...ViolaAnn wrote:'Rainbows End' IS NEW TO ME AND GORGEOUS. (Oops. Didn't mean to shout.) How large would I expect it to get as a mature plant? Re: Hosta 'Rainbow's End'
Rainbow's End shouldn't get as big as Hanky Panky which gets to be a pretty large plant here.
Rainbow's End is a sport of Obsession with a light colored center. Obsession has stayed a small/medium sized plant here, but other gardens I've seen it in Obsession has been a medium sized plant (about 24" across). Since RE has less green I think it could be smaller, so won't need much space.
Still think those are some terrific pictures Sugar

Re: Hosta 'Rainbow's End'
Are you selling this one yet, Chris?
Re: Hosta 'Rainbow's End'
I actually did find it on my wish list when I went to add it. Now I just need to find someone in Canada who sells it.

I was really pleased with this one this year. You're right Chris, I noticed yesterday that mine still look good too. I would be surprised if this one got really big.

I also LOVE Rainbow's End Mine are only two years old and about a foot across. I liked the streaking and coloring so much that I bought two!

Two years later... this picture gives an idea of the size of this plant. The plant besides it is a 4-eyed Royal Mouse EarsChris_W wrote:Rainbow's End shouldn't get as big as Hanky Panky which gets to be a pretty large plant here.

I often see this plant listed in catalogs as a small plant, which it isn't. It's definately medium sized

Re: Hosta 'Rainbow's End'
This is a terrific plant! I'm really happy to have another batch of these coming up in 2011. It is a patented plant so we can't produce it ourselves so I was worried about how we would start more. Shady Oaks had stopped production of it for a year but started up again. If they hadn't it would have essentially halted the sales of this plant for good, until someone else got the rights to produce it.
I like Obsession too, but it isn't quite as showy as this one
Thanks for bringing this up again Sugar!

Re: Hosta 'Rainbow's End'
Hi,
It one of my top 5. Love it. I paid 34.95 3-4 years ago, and it was worth it. I am going to plant two leather sheen in the forefront.
What would you use for a companion?

And it grows fast too! I got a 4-eyed plant from Hallson's last Spring, and this year it has 7 eyes. Shiny leaves and very recognizable from a distance.
