For those of you in the Iowa City area, Mark Zilis will be giving a free talk at the Iowa City Public Library on Sunday, February 8, from 2-4. Fair warning, it's going to be mainly a self promotion event, as his main topic will be his new book, but he will also discuss some of the newer hosta varieties. Again, this will probably be weighted heavily towards what he is currently selling, and what he plans to market in the future, but he will probably also discuss general trends.
That said, Mark is always an engaging speaker, and if you keep in mind that he is a business owner first and a gardener second, his talks can be quite informative. He does know hostas as well as anyone in the world, and he's absolutely up to the minute on the newest varieties. He generally has a question and answer period, which is always interesting.
The book isn't due out until April, so don't expect him to have any copies with him, although he will probably take orders (minimum of 2 copies per customer). Hope to see you there.
