Which hostas are you most anticipating?

Post by Chris_W »

Although I'm (hopefully) still a solid month or more away from seeing eyes pop up, I am most anticipating seeing Frosted Mouse Ears and Holy Mouse Ears because they were so small last year and I'm worried about how they managed over the winter :wow: But I also really like the big plants so can't wait to see how big Titanic is getting this year. The first few years they didn't look quite right so I never did anything with them, but I think this will be the 4th year for them so they should really be looking nice :)

All of them   I want to see how Dreamweaver did this winter and how Pauls Glory is going to perform. Last year it had so many problems that it was just flat ugly all year. Halcyon is always beautiful in the spring, so I can't wait to see the blue... hmmmm OH !! I forgot about Empress Woo!! like I said I can't wait to see all of them

Hello!,
Ocean Isle and Whirlwind Romance. This is my leap year, I hope I'm not let down. So, I guess most all of them with emphasise on the two singled out.

I'm looking forward to Waving Wuffles, I loved it last year, it lost all it's leaves over the winter (as did a few of the others), I'm just hoping I haven't killed it like I did Cameo.

Paul's Glory decided to BE Paul's Glory and hasn't missed a beat. It's had leaves all year and has split into at least 3 eyes from the one that Chis sent as a bonus last year. It'd definately a bright spot on the porch! What a great bonus!!

All of them for me, too. I put in large new bed late in the year last year, so lots of transplanted plants and new plants ordered from Chris. I can't wait to see how the new area looks this year, and hopefully ALL of the hosta will emerge unscathed from the winter.

It's been such a long winter, with so many things going on, that it seems my hosta brain is still frozen.
I am kind of wondering if a tiny sporting eye on Gold Regal will make a return this year. Dancing Queen should be leaping this year, and I can't wait to see that. War Paint and Minnesota Nice are spectacular in the spring and they should be a bit larger this year. I'm hoping Golden Meadows takes off..what a pretty thing that is!
Then there are last year's crop of seedlings, always anxious to see how many of them make it through the first winter. I have some 3 yr old Empress Wu seedlings that I'm thinking will be huge this year, and the Empress herself was making pretty good strides last summer for a first year plant.
Teeny Weeny Bikini seemed to have gone dormant last summer, and I'm hoping it will return.
Mount Tom was really showing some size last year, and this year should be even nicer. It's really not just another white-edged hosta.
Kruggerand also should be making a big splash this year.

See, once I get started, more and more of them keep coming to mind.
Okay, all of them.....

Linda,
Good luck on your "sporting eye"! How exciting. There have been several excellent sports from Gold Regal. I t seems to me that is where Alex Summers comes from, one I consider TOP and would hate to be w/o.

I, too, am eager to see all of them! I've missed them sooooo much! :D

I planted a new bed around my patio last year and many of the hostas had gone dormant by the time I got them in, so I'm just guessing how it might look. I really eager to see them all.

I also planted a number of new streaked hostas late last year, as well as some other special ones. I'm a little nervous about them coming back after losing some good ones in pots in the wet winter last year.

I got hosta "Extreme" last year and it was one I was nervous about as that is the most I've paid for a hosta so far...child's play for some, I know, but big time for me!!! I pulled back the mulch the other day and there was a big fat pip starting to poke thru! Set my heart at ease...

I hope everyone will post pics this year as their babies start spring up.

I'm watching my "mice" too. Frosted and Holy are up about 1/4" and I had to squint to see them in their pots...but they ARE there. Good. They were so very tiny last year. Clovelly, which came to me last year with one nice eye, is sprouting SEVEN eyes. Wahoooo! No sign of eyes for Stitch In Time, but then only about 1/2 of my hostas in pots are up. Warmer weather this week should give them a boost.

Ordered the Mices too last winther, but did not get any of them...even I saw them lon a marked late summer -coming from the same suplier :hmm:

Sure want to see them, but specially want to se h. Manhattan...got it early spring 2007 and planted it in a tall slender pot..first year it was nicde but nothing, then last year things were started to impress me.. the low growing habit, the texture, the shape, the dull color..something was new to my scedule of hostas
So far from my usual favs... it got my interest in 2008..and I want it to trick me again this summer.
So far from my top prioty hostas, Olga's Manhattan is tested..and tested to be a winner

Normally I am inn for vaseshaped hostas, but this one...
You better try it

I guess I'm one of the "all of them" anticipators . . . two weeks ago we moved all the pots from my daughter's house to our new one, because they've started to sprout and I wanted to get them moved before they leafed out. I'm sort of holding my breath about how they've fared in pots all winter, in their new planting zone (from 5/Indiana to 6/Tennessee) so I'm really eagerly checking out every little sign of life! So far, so good . . . there are lots of little nubbins peeking up!
