Went shopping at a local greenhouse today

Post by redcrx »

Found something nice labeled Showboat. It looked really bright. But there was something else growing in the pot with it. Two for the price of one? So I bought it and tried to look up the companion in the hosta library. Whoops, the bright hunk I wanted is not Showboat - the other piece is. Now I don't know what the bright hunk is. Anyone want to guess.

I guessed Twilight too, before I saw Mary Ann's post.

You are probably right. I see a lot of Twight around here. I didn't consider it at first because it looked different from what I remember. I actually thought it might be Li'l Abner - my pictures from last year look very similar. BUT this year everything looks different - Twilight is different from last year and Li'l Abner is different from last year. Now Twilight looks more like this plant. My Twilight is three years old while my Li'l Abner only went in last year.

Showboat's margin is yellow/cream in the spring. I was thinking that the bright white edge one was the unknown.
Just to make things even more confusing. At the hosta librery they have pics of Showboat wioth white margins and with yellow margins (Spring coloring)

The center is one of the darkest greens I have seen.

Checking the hosta library for pictures of Twilight, it shows plants with both a white edge and a yellow edge?? Almost the same as Showboat - except Twilight's leaves look more rounded. I'll have to wait and see what develops.

Early in the season I received Fantabulous as a bonus. At the time it didn't look like much but a month later it looks really nice. Then I notice how much it looks like the "buddy" I was trying to ID. And they were planted about 10 feet apart so the noticed the similarity.
