more nematode questions...

Post by supercat »

I thought I had gotten away without nematodes, then discovered this on my Radiant Edger a couple of days ago. I got the plant last year from a reliable, major hosta dealer, no symptoms last year. Does this look like nematodes to you all? It was in proximity to the Peedee Goldflash that is next in the pics. The huge long holes I thought were just from some hungry slug, they've been there all season, with no browning between ribs on the leaves. Finally - there is a picture of a couple of spilt milk leaves. I think that the spilt milk is just sun burn - the brown sections were pure white and of slightly different substance.

The first one - Radiant Edger - looks like nematodes from what I've seen. The second one (Pee Dee) looks more like slugs or cutworms while the Spilt Milk looks like sun burn to me. Then again, I'm no expert so hopefully others will weigh in on the issue.

RATS!! OK - so worth the trouble of saving? or trash it and pour boiling water on the soil where it currently lives?

To be honest, I would say to mentally prepare yourself for the idea that they have already spread. If there are plants within a 3ft radius, they are also now susceptible. I'm just a big ray of sunshine, I know.

The short answer would be to trash (burn) the plants and pour boiling water into the hole.
