Anyone have Don Quixote?
Anyone else have Hosta 'Don Quixote'? I have a plant that was given to me as Don Quixote, originally came from Winterberry Farms, and I'm wondering if that's really what I have now? For those who were familiar with Winterberry, they didn't always keep the best track of things.
I'm going to get a picture of mine today, and would love to compare it to others.
Thanks!
Chris

Re: Anyone have Don Quixote?
Chris, I have one, have had it for quite a few years. Supposed to be a streaker, hard to keep as such. Don't think I have any recent pics. of it, but may still be able to take one tomorrow, not sure, haven't looked in that part of the garden for a while I'm sure if you post a pic, I can say yes or no. Just looked, and don't have a notation of how I got it, but I'm sure it will come to me.
Re: Anyone have Don Quixote?
Have it, but no picture. Leaves are somewhat glossy. Sets very few pods and those that do set are short and stubby.

Re: Anyone have Don Quixote?
Thanks, I've taken some pictures today and I don't think this is Don Quixote. From the pods I wonder if it is Christmas Tree Gala? Whatever this plant, it is rather fertile.
Re: Anyone have Don Quixote?
Chris, your plant does look like one of the XTG's I have. Only picture I can find of DQ is from 2003, and I cropped it out of a grouping. My plant today looks real bad, it's been raining, and it's mostly green, no pods. Like Josh said, it is glossy and I think I may have had a couple of pods on it, once or twice, way back.

Re: Anyone have Don Quixote?
Thanks Barbara.
Yup, there is no way my plant is Don Quixote, but from the sound of it, this one might be a better breeder anyway.
This plant struggled to get going for years but it finally exploded this season. That's why I started to take notice and question the ID.
Any other suggestions as to what this might be?

Here's a pic. of a small piece of XTG taken this morning, in the rain Most of the plants around it have gone down, or are all yellow, but this one is still hanging in. Looks a lot like yours, minus pods.

Re: Anyone have Don Quixote?
I agree that it definitely is not DQ. CTG looks like a possibility.

Re: Anyone have Don Quixote?
Thanks for the comparison, and for checking this one out. It really does look a lot like Christmas Tree Gala. I'll have some seeds available from this one soon. Once it stops raining (it has been raining every other day for a week now) I'll be collecting seeds from a lot of things.

Thanks Ken. Can you by any chance comment on the possibility that I have Christmas Tree Gala instead (maybe?).

Ken, that's a nice D.Q.

Don Quixote is a streaked sport of Don Stevens.

'Don Quixote' this season.
I have been looking at my new front garden and thought it needed another streaker. I will be adding this plant in there. I have a 'Don Stevens' around somewhere. I need to track it down - it's the "parent" 'Don Quixote' came from.
