Goodness Gracious...look at the margin on THIS hosta!

Post by Don Rawson »

Goodness Gracious...too new to have a photo on the Hosta Library...and too new to even find out who's selling it! (I got mine from Club Lakeside along with a few other beauties.)

It's called Goodness Gracious, and my goodness...look at how WIDE the margin is on this thing!!! Coming from Amy Bergeron of Walters Gardens, Goodness Gracious is spectacular sport of Satisfaction. One source says that Goodness Gracious is "...a possible tetraploid that improves upon an already fantastic hosta with an extra wide, gently undulating gold margin circling the deep green leaf. The broad, pointed leaves have deeply impressed, prominent veins and excellent substance."

But so far, the extremely wide margin is WHAT REALLY STANDS OUT! Like the MyHostas Database says, Goodness Gracious exhibits "...a much wider margin that really makes for a heck of a plant!"

I saw this one at First Look. I got all excited to go grab one, but decided not to at the end. The coloration on the little ones was not nearly as subtle - it looked just like a bright green with a yellow margin. This is one that I really wanted to love and bring home, but I will definitely be waiting to see how it grows up before I make that ocmmitment.

I just picked one up at First look from Chick. It's fresh out of TC but I'm looking forward to seeing it mature!
It will be great in a few years.

Josh had some nice ones yesterday when Marlys and I were there. I was tempted, but decided I'd need to buy something from him in MN.

Goodness Gracious is a sport of Satisfaction.

one might suggest ... that it has a small center.. rather than a large margin ...

but then.. i dont know who the parent/heritage is.. the green or the yellow???

dont you think?

Ken,

It's a sport of 'Satisfaction', which has a decent yellow edge on a green leaf, but not as dramatic as this.

Satisfaction is also known for throwing off streaked sports, which can be useful in breeding.
