Knock me over with a feather!

Post by jgh »

I've been watching this Blue-haired Lady since late June when it started showing some odd coloring. I assumed it was going to be my first confirmed HVX plant. I finally got around to using one of my test strips from the convention. It quite conclusively said it does NOT have HVX. So... it might have some other virus or it might have some other condition causing this - but the test strip says no HVX.

Hmmmm.... does the whole plant look thus?? :???:

I'd re-test in a couple of weeks and see what it says then. OR....
After hearing Dr. Lockhart's speech, maybe wait until spring when it's actively growing and re-test.

Hmmmm...is right. It really doesn't look like typical HVX symptoms to me, but it is certainly high on the suspicion chart. Of course, there are plants like 'Cynthia' that are splotched similarly, but are not HVX (or any virus) infected. I'm interested in the result of this one if you retest another time too. :hmm:

I would put it in the some other virus category. It probably isn't worth getting it laboratory tested as you can easily replace it for much less money. Personally I would pitch it. If you decide to hold on to it and it shows this again next year then definitely pitch it.

Bummer, were it not a sign of disease, I'd think that marbling looks pretty darn cool.

Lots of hostas are showing signs / symptoms of all sorts of ulginess here. The continually wet weather and then horrid heat and humidity are not conducive to healthy hosta plants. Remember how beautiful and fresh and healthy looking they were before the heat hit. I have stuff on plants all over the garden but no HVX. I thought my H 'Glory' had it as some of the leaves are bumpy / corrugated. It has never had that previously. I used my free virus strip and to my surprise, it was negative also. That was a relief!

Lots of other plants are dying off in the gardens / drowning in mucky wet heavy clay. Lost my little blue withches broom last year due to being way too wet. I discovered an really ugly looking tree peony / dead-ugly this afternoon too. :(

I'm just waiting for next year now.
