Very nice. How old and what are their backgrounds?

Nice seedlings, and I was wondering who the daddy and mommy were too.

Re: Some seedlings from the Hosta Mill
Thanks for the nice reactions.
They are all OP seedlings, so I only know mum.
In front: H. 'Grand Slam' x OP
In the back, left: H. 'Marilyn Monroe' x OP
In the back, right: H. 'Grand Slam' x OP
They are all seedlings from the winter 2007-2008, grown in pots for 2 years and grown outdoors in a seedling bed for 2 years afterwards.
As you can judge from the size they're rather fast growing and are good garden plants.
If I would have had these seedlings 5 years ago, they would have been very "hot".
Unfortunately, since then, this type of plant has become rather common.
But as long as I like them and you like them, I'm a happy man.
There's more to come: the seedling bed contains about 60 plants, all in need of a space of their own.
Greetings,
Rob

Re: Some seedlings from the Hosta Mill
Thanks, Rob. I enjoyed seeing your pics here (and on Hostapix). I know what you mean about that type of hosta.
I was looking at a beautiful Big John x OP seedling of mine yesterday that a few years back would have been the kind
of hosta I'd have grabbed in a second if I saw it for sale somewhere. It's only starting year 3, so it will be much, much
bigger in a few more years, and may still be the hosta I've been trying to grow: A huge piecrusted hosta with great
substance.

Good looking seedlings.
If you need space you are very welcome to send the Marilyn Monroe seedling to me

Maybe later in the summer
First I need to be home to get the garden in some sort of order, I have been gone the 2 last springs... not a good idea when the garden is filled up with weeds, when you come home ...
Where in Belgium are you ?
The hosta Mill is looking very good

Another one,
It's called
Hosta 'Mill's Trump Suit'
Its vase-shape and erect leaves show off teh red petioles well.
It's shiny on top and below.

"Kom og få det" (come and get it) is an invitation I would be unable to resist. It's just a hop skip and a jump, Pia.

Very nice!
I am really into the ripples and would happily grow any of those. Well done!

Re: Some seedlings from the Hosta Mill
Some real beauties there! I have a few very small rippled seedlings that I'm nurturing along. They're still indoors under lights but growing well. I hope they grow to be half as splendid as yours.

Re: Some seedlings from the Hosta Mill
Thanks everyone for the nice reactions.
I'm still in the process of potting them all up, naming them, taking pictures and putting them on the Hosta Mill website.
I give them names because it's easier to talk about, let's say Hosta 'Mill's Trump Suit' than about H. 'Grand Slam' OP #17.
I know I should toss a bunch (I have some 45 named H. 'Grand Slam' offspring from 2 batches), but Ijust can't do it. I disposed of about 15 so far (my neighbour was very pleased).
You will eventually find the whole bunch on
http://www.hostamill.be/ENG/ENGHMIntro/ENGHMIntro.htm
My own favorites so far are H. 'Mill' and H. 'Mill's Trump Suit'.
H. 'Mill' has a delicate leaf shape, but the clumping habit and flowering isn't great (the scapes grow almost horizontal);
H. 'Mill's Trump Suit' shows off the red scapes in a perfect way. It's also quite large for a red scaped plant. I guess that's the best.

Re: Some seedlings from the Hosta Mill
They all look great Rob I've seen lesser plants introduced as "hot" hostas and these beat a lot of those. The last one especially looks nice and will be interesting to see it grows up.

Re: Some seedlings from the Hosta Mill
I agree with you Chris,
Hosta 'Mill's Trump Suit' is a wonderful plant.
I don' think it will get any bigger (the picture is deceptive, the container is a about 3.5 gallons).
The plant is 16" high, the largest leaves are 9" long.
Thanks,
Rob
