Flooded Hosta = Hardy Hosta

Post by lykaon78 »

We recently had 5-6" of rain in about 2 hours... this was the outcome for my hosta beds.

The Christmas tree you see came through the culvert in the previous photo. Good thing everything was anchored down.

My main hosta bed that was submerged. The rock in the picture that is barely above water is about 8 inches tall.

These were taken about an hour later. The ones in the next picture were completely underwater in the first picture of this post.

The creek in the upper left corner of this one is almost back to its normal width but normally the water is 2-3" deep. Its probably 18-24" in this photo.Image

Fortunately, other than being a little dirty, most of the hosta seem to be fine. A couple of the hosta near the culvert lost some of the dirt covering their roots but otherwise they all survived.

Hosta truly are hardy plants.

Wow, what an incredible scene! I think I would've been worried that the poor hostas would've been washed away with flood waters like that. But you're right, they do look as though they held up okay. They're tough indeed.

That's a scary scene. Hopefully no permanent damage.

Glad the hostas did not wash away!

Nature sure has a way of telling us just how insignificant our efforts can be - tornadoes, hail, floods - about all a reasonable person can do is get out of the way.

Glad to see how well your gardens came through this onslaught - thanks for sharing your pics... I'll be looking for updates later in the season!
