Flowers in the garden.
The fortunei types are in full flower well as many other types. I have seen hummingbirds stopping by to feed. Here are some photos today.

If you want to see my "flower" collection try: Ed's flower pages
I didn't realize they even had stripes until I got really into hosta.

Re: Flowers in the garden.
Very pretty. I sometime like buds better than the flowers. Can they be posted here or should that be a separate thread?
Here's a BIG flower on little 'Lonesome Dove'.

Re: Flowers in the garden.
Love the stripes on 'Ogon Tachi' in particular.
I see your magic ingredient for good closeups seems to be fingers. I'll have to try that because the flowers are never facing the right way.

Re: Flowers in the garden.
Hi Ann - you can post whatever you want here.
The reason you see my fingers is two fold. You got the first part - I need the right angle to get the shot and I'm not going to crawl around on the ground. The second is to control the auto-focus. The camera wants to focus on the background so I need to fill the frame with my fingers to get it to focus correctly.
There is actually a long story on that Ogon Tachi: I have a rectifolia called Green Flash that is not doing too well (the dirt washed out around the crown and the roots dried out) so I dug it up to repot it. I was going to put a Bill Brinka in its place. Went to my holding area but couldn't find it. Instead I noticed the Ogon Tachi with a huge scape and beautiful flowers. I pulled it out and got some shots. (Hmmm, maybe not that long of a story.)

Love the deep purple of 'Feather Boa'.
Will post some of mine when I have time, but I have to work on getting them small enough and Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival has just started. I'm scheduled to help out at 24 concerts over the next 2 weeks; so might be a bit scarce.

Re: Flowers in the garden.
I got some of the flower pics resized and have time to post a few now. Must get out there and try for more close-ups. Good tip about using the fingers for the autofocus.
Here are: 'Aristocrat', 'Bridegroom', 'Dancing With Leila' (my own SEEDLING of 'Last Dance' which looks almost identical to the sibling of LD, 'Dance With Me'), a bud of 'Fortunei Aureomarginata' and a bud of 'Francee'.

Time for a few more.
A different bud on 'Francee', buds on 'Frosted Dimples', flowers on 'Gemini Moon', 'Lonesome Dove' with a flower that seems larger than the plant, and buds on 'Loyalist'.

Re: Flowers in the garden.
A bee stopping by Blue Umbrellas.
The bee inside Christmas Tree (the hosta in the ground), I was not quick enough to capture that.
Fortunei Albopicta in bloom, one of the flowers visited by the morning bee
Hosta Christmas Tree in the front yard
first flower of Hibiscus-Purple Galaxy.
Note: In the fortunei Albopicta flower, this one was just a bud. When I look again at noon, the flower opens.

Re: Flowers in the garden.
Some today - Fujibotan just opened.
I was going to split rectifolia Nakai for a "secret trade" when I saw how many eyes it had. But changed my mind because I wanted to see what the whole thing would look like in flower. Get Nekkid has some "spider" in its heritage.
