Is that 'Fragrant King' a LARGE bloom? It looks as though it could be. Fragrant?

I tried your technique of taking some closeups yesterday and got a few. Need to try it with my other camera which, I feel, is a bit better for close-up work.

Here are several taken yesterday.

'Summer Breeze' - should likely be similar to DWL above since they are of the same family.

Yes - I'll get my ruler out and get some more. They are supposed to be fragrant but I can't catch them when they are.

The whole group puts out flowers around 3 inches across - Stained Glass, Paradise Sunrise, Fragrant King, Fragrant Dream, Color Parade, and some others are open now. Guacamole will be here in a few days.

Yours are way ahead of mine. 'Stained Glass' and 'Fragrant Bouquet' are just budding now. Maybe there's a bud somewhere in 'Diana Remembered' and it will be awhile yet before 'Venus' flowers.

Try watering it a lot. Some people think that helps. You're farther south than I am; so your growing season should be long enough. How long have you had the plant?

Three years and it sits right next to Fujibotan which does flower. I may move it to a spot that gets more sun and water.

I would wait another year. Venus will flower very late in the season - mine is usually in very late August or September and it took a few years to bloom. Keep it really well watered and if it doesn't bloom this summer, then move it.

Is the colour on Aomori Gold Star true? What an intense colour if it is!

The Rohdeifolia and the Aomori Gold Star are in the same light or shade depending on how you look at it. That's how the camera picks it up. That's the way it looks to my eyes also. There is a shot of mine in the hosta library where it looks a little different but still nice and dark. The whole group is really dark. The tallest is still developing - the Kinbuchi Tachi on the right will also be really dark.

And 'Praying Hands', 'Rainbow's End' bud, 'Regal Splendor', 'Revolution', 'Paradise Island'
'Praying Hands' blooming for the first time though I've had it about 5 years. Very spidery and not held high above the plant.
