Our 15 minutes of hosta fame... or maybe call it 3...

Post by jgh »

It’s been a banner year for notoriety for Harbor Lane Gardens…hope this doesn’t sound too much like bragging… just thought we’d share a summary and some links if you are interested.

First, Jim had two pieces, an article and a book review, published in the AHS Journal. To his surprise, it was announced at the AHS Convention in Massachusetts that he had been selected for recognition as best new writer or some such.

Then Harbor Lane Gardens was on the Minnesota Hosta Society tours in July, resulting in visits from lots of hosta lovers including several from Manitoba. (and yes... they do say 'eh?' occasionally!)

The recent edition of Plymouth Magazine has an article about Harbor Lane Gardens. The picture isn’t flattering – the photographer spent over an hour and took hundreds of photos… wish they’d have just published an attractive picture of a hosta or garden section… but the article is pretty good. (OK - no 6’ tall blue hosta we know of, but overall it’s not bad writing…)

And yesterday the community TV, Channel 12, did a nice little feature. Pretty amazing… they interviewed us for an hour+, left about 11AM… and this ran on the 4 PM news segment.

Yes, wanted it to last longer! For those of us who live far, far away, maybe you could show us a little more of your gorgeous garden! :)

Jim and Sheila -- You famous people, you! I am so thrilled that your gardens are being recognized as being the treasures that they are. I just today brought about 10 hostas and a few heucheras over to our new house from the backyard of the old one, and will plant them out tomorrow. It'll be a long time before anything here looks a quarter as good as your lovely acreage. Congrats! Phyllis

Congratulations to my favorite pair of Idiots! This is a banner year for you..and well deserved!
Good to see you both looking well, after all the trials of the past months.
Oh, and I can't wait to get back up that way and visit your garden when it's not being pelted by hail!

thank you, all! And we look forward to seeing any and all of you in the gardens! We've had quite the fully of "drop in " visitors due to the publications. What a delight to get to share all our hard work with our visitors!

We'd love to see you all - and Linda P... especially you and the folks who came and so bravely sat out a near-tornado pretending not to be concerned that we don't have a basement and then being so polite about admiring the hail-shattered gardens! Grab a good friend or two and plan to come up next spring when things look fresh! We'll plug in the RV so you even have your own "apartment" in the gardens!
