Hosta of the Day 'Rainbow's End' - Post Your Pics

Post by ViolaAnn »

'Rainbow's End' was new to me in July 2009 after the first one I had ordered was dug up by squirrels 3 times and finally succumbed. I bought another one locally. I LOVE this plant. It's perky and grows well and the slugs and earwigs leave it alone.

Description: Yellow to creamy white with shades of medium and dark green margin.
Size: Small (21"w x 12"h)
Origin: Sport of H. 'Obsession'
Flowers: pale lavender, tubular. Darker lavender centers on petals.
Notes: This hosta is patented.

Lucky you. Something got to my Rainbow's End. I imagine it was earwigs as new growth shows no damage since I put the Bug-Getta with earwig control down. This is a first year plant, maybe next year it will be more resistant.

Thanks for posting. After taking the picture, I noticed the slug eggs around it. Have to go out and destroy those now. There will eggs buried in the soil too.

But even your RE looks a whole lot better than the plants around it. :)

This was mine as a newly planted baby direct from Hallson's. It has grown very well this season and has been consistently one of my new favorites.

No Objections. I look forward to your posts every day. And yes, Rainbow's End didn't suffer as bad as Revolution! I'm really looking forward to Rainbow's End next year!

Rainbow's End is such a standout! It looks almost plastic compared to the softer look of other hostas. I got mine from Hallson's in 2009.

This hosta is still the closest one I have to a slug-proof hosta. It's doing well.

I'd try cutting it down and dousing the area with water 1 gallon with 1/2 c Hydrogen Peroxide added. It's a whole other story from this thread, but I think FMs are here to stay and we're gonna have to live with them. But we can try to control them.

2014 - it has seen more growth and is doing well, though this evening, I finished off 3 slugs that were on it. I supposed there wasn't much left around it. Picture July 27.

The only thing two Gardeners will ever agree on is what the other is doing wrong.

You won't know how to grow a plant successfully until you've killed it a few times.

2015 - Aug. 13. This one continues to stand out in the garden. Visitors always ask about it. I need to move the small plants around it to give it more space.

2017 update - I started to move the small surrounding plants. Otherwise, not much difference.
