Daily Hosta #2 - 'Peppermint Ice' - add your pics
Name: H. 'Peppermint Ice'
Description: Shiny leaves with white centres and green margins of various shades. Holds up well during the season.
Size: Small (22"w x 8"h)
Origin: H. 'William Lachman' X H. montana
Flowers: Funnel-shaped, lavender flowers in July on an upright, leafy scape.
Source: Budd Gardens
Added to garden: Spring 2006
Notes: Likes good light to moderate shade. Moderate increaser. May need frequent dividing to maintain streaking. Mine was divided and shared in 2008. By 2011, it was showing signs of being rhizomatous as I had new growth in two different directions about 6 inched from the main mound. One of those divisions was removed to grow separately. I like this one a lot.

Re: Daily Hosta #2 - 'Peppermint Ice' - add your pics
I still like this one. But I posted a question about it during the season. The pictures on the Hosta Library seem to show two distinctly different plants. And the pictures from nurseries that have this plant available do as well.
I inquired both of the Hosta Library and the AHS Registraar without resolving the issue. Go to viewtopic.php?f=1&t=56211 to see the discussion.
Anyway, mine still seems to be rhizomatous and it looks great for most of the season.

Re: Daily Hosta #2 - 'Peppermint Ice' - add your pics
Hi Ann,
I was just moving some Peppermint Ice and remembered the discussion about the different plants shown in the hosta library. Mine were from Q & Z Nursery around the same time that you bought your plant, so they probably also got their original starts from Q & Z too, and my plants are also very similar to yours. Since the registration doesn't really mention the margin width it is tough to know for sure, but I think that the original TC run done back in 2004/2005 by Q & Z all looked like your plant (more or less) and I think this is how it is supposed to look.
Your plant looks great. I need to tend to mine better. They were in a spot that was a bit too sunny and dry so I moved them and reworked the soil some more.

This was the other discussion about 'Peppermint Ice' - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=56211&p=484506&hili ... ce#p484506 And I never got any resolution from the Hosta Registrar who told me to take it up with the Hosta Library.

Re: Daily Hosta #2 - 'Peppermint Ice' - add your pics
Thanks Ann. I was wondering if the registrar had anything to say about it. Nothing Bob can do (at the library) since he doesn't have the time to vet any of the pictures that are submitted. It would be a monumental task, though I know there are many mislabelled plants pictured there. I guess we'll just have to say there are two versions of Peppermint Ice out there from now on...
Re: Daily Hosta #2 - 'Peppermint Ice' - add your pics
But I think WE have the Correct one!

Agreed, I think that this one pictured is the correct form, or at least the form that was originally intended and originally propagated in commerce.

2014. 9 years in my garden and I love this one. It's lovely and blooms well. I don't expect it to get much larger. Photo July 27.

2015 - July 25. This is a mature plant, but it's clear to me that it is slightly rhizomatous as I have new eyes popping up at some distance from the original one.

2017 update - July 19, 2017. We had a lot of rain in 2017 and the slugs ate everything in site. At the end of the season, I did divide out one of these eyes for 2018 plant sales.
