Daily Hosta #2 - 'Peace' - add your pics

Post by ViolaAnn »

Name: H. 'Peace'

Description: Heart-shaped blue leaves with streaky creamy yellow margins. Thick substance.
Size: Small
Origin: H. 'Blue Hugger' x H. 'Love Pat'
Flowers: Lavender, bell-shaped flowers on bare scapes mid-season.
Source: Hosta Choice Gardens
Added to garden: June 2010
Notes: There are many on-line references to this plant as a mini-hosta although it is obviously larger. Apparently it is slow to grow for many people.

Truly one of the worst plants in my garden, which I have nursed along hoping it would turn into something worthy of its name. No such peace was to be found. How can an offspring of Love Pat seem to attract more bug bites than anything in the garden.

It's still there, but I have it's location earmarked for a suitably-named replacement: 'Olive Branch'.

If instead you want a plant that looks like this but actually grows, try 'Mourning Dove'.

2014 - My 'Peace' is still really spindly. After 5 years, it should be filling out. Maybe it needs more shade. If so, I may be able to help it out. This photo July 8.

Mine normally gets a lot of sun but with this season's 4 weeks of rain it looks good.

I was planning to remove this one from my garden, but maybe I should try it in full sun first. 2016 update - it looks just about the same.

Ours was in a pretty sunny space but never looked as good as that. Eventually we tossed it as a non-performer.

Looking good. I got rid of mine a year ago. I've had it with hostas that don't grow. Space is too limited in my yard.
