Daily Hosta #4 - Lakeside Zinger

One last for "L" from the Lakeside collection - Lakeside Zinger. I got a huge one of these a few years ago and broke it up into 3 segments. While I was tearing it apart, I ended up with some little fragments.

Name: H. 'Lakeside Zinger'

Description: Fast growing mound of dark green leaves with wide white margins. Flecks of green appear in white margins.
Size: Tiny (9"w x 7"h)
Origin: unknown
Flowers: Tubular, pale lavender on upright, dark, leafy, green scape in late July.

Added to garden: spring 2006

This one is a fast-growing, dense mound. Mine was completely divided in the spring when I teased the entire root mass apart and got many more divisions than I expected. I replanted what I didn't sell into several groups and it looks nearly as full as before.

I have one eye which appears to be sporting to 'Lakeside Zing Zang'.

Well, 'Zing Zang' did not return after the winter. But Zinger has done very well, bloomed profusely and produced masses of seed.

Mine has become a solid mass. And it DOES still have a bit of 'Zing Zang' mixed up in it, but I don't plant to try to separate it. Photo July 16, 2014.
