Post by ViolaAnn »

Name: H. 'Ice Cream' - 2008

Description: Cupped broadly ovate leaves with moderately prominent veins. Deep green centre and gold margin
Size: Small (12"w x 9"h)
Origin: sport of H. ‘Vanilla Cream’ (Rossing 1998)
Flowers: White tubular flowers with lavender stripes in midsummer
Added to garden: Spring 2007
Notes: Reportedly rhizomatous although I've not seen any evidence to support this.

Our H. Ice Cream multiplies like crazy - but doesn't appear to be rhizomatous either

I really like Ice Cream. I planted it last summer and on August 2nd this past summer, it's looking relatively good in a spot that doesn't get much light and is prone to slug and earwig damage.

This is a really nice, perky plant. Here it is in 2014 - late July.

Here is my Ice Cream this AM. It split into two parts when I dealt with unruly Ostrich Fern roots a few years ago, I would guess this one is 4 years old and is in pretty deep shade.

This little plant gets abused in my garden - tree root competition & vole attack in 2014. But it's still here.

I got it in 2010.

Here it is in 2011.

2016 - this is a mature plant. I won't see much change from year to year.

2017 - much the same. But this one is showing some "fairy ring" and I'll dig it in 2018, give some away and pot some of it closer together again. This photo July 27.
