Daily Hosta #2 - 'Blue Cadet' - Add your pics

Post by ViolaAnn »

Name: H. 'Blue Cadet'

Description: Heart-shaped blue-green leaves. It forms neat dense mounds with lavender flowers that bloom in early summer.
Size: Small
Origin:: seedling of H. 'Tokudama'
Flowers: Lavender - early July
Added to garden: September 2005

This one grows quite rapidly and has formed a good-sized mound. However, in spring 2011, I completely divided it and replanted into a border in my darkest garden - it's one of the few hostas which really does well there.

Blue Cadet must be a good grower. This one is in it's second year and is doing great considering that it's been moved at least four times in the past two years and was strangled by maple tree roots in its previous spots.

The same border of 'Blue Cadet' taken July 3, 2012. It has not grown a lot - maybe because this tends to be a dry garden.

Nice groundcowering blu/green mound of hosta... you will see no weeds under it at all :D
Can bloom up till 3 times here
No really exeptional reason to let it set pods, so cut off the flowers with some roses..and you have some very lovely flowers for a vase... then change the roses, hosta flowers last a long time
Against stupidity the gods themselves struggle in vain.

Blue Cadet has always been a good grower for me.

Blue Cadet in 2012. The bunny ate these flower buds shortly after the pic was taken:

The same border shown above. It grew enough that I was able to divide some of it in order to extend the border a bit.

Here's mine in mid August of 2013. I don't have any current pics because this hosta is just not one of my favorites (I keep forgetting to record it). I also don't care for Teaspoon, but that's another thread.

It's not one of my favourites either, but in the dark spot where I have it, it's one of the few that grow well.

2015 - July 25. The border is filling out. As I mentioned above, this corner is very, very dark and dry and few plants do well here.

July 9, 2017. It looked much the same in 2017. But in autumn, we redid all our stonework and decided to pave over this little garden as I've been trying unsuccessfully to grow things in it for years. It was too dark and too dry and except for the border, nothing grew well there. So, I dug out all of 'Blue Cadet' and most of it went to plant sales this spring. I still have two pots of it but haven't decided where to put it.
