Purple Haze hosta

Post by babyboomerinbarrie »

Interested in feed-back on this fairly new hosta. Don't have one, but would like to get one to add to my collection. Thank you.

I have one in its second year (with me). It increased nicely in size since last year but I dont see any purple haze to it.

That's indeed unique! I wouldn't mind having one of those, too!

LSU, does your plant at least have the purple stalks?

Does it need a bit moe sun or warmth to get the red/purple markings? Never had any experince with any of the red stalked ones.

I really like my Purple Haze -- planted in 2010 and has grown really well. I moved it to more sun last year, and that definately brings out more of the purple in the leaves. It gets ~4.5 hours of morning sun and some dappled sun after that even. Sorry the pics make the purple look like 'dirty smudges', but it is a reddish-purple color (sun took yesterday and today off!). I like the shape of the plant, and the leaf features as well. It's not fully developed yet this year as weather has cooled down considerably in past 10 days.

Regards
Linda

I haven't grown it at all myself, but typically hostas with this sort of coloration like it colder to show this well and then it tends to disappear as it warms up. But like I said, I have no idea if Purple Haze is this way too.

Hey all - I'm back!

I picked this one up today - it was marked Pewterware, but it seems it may have been a mismarked Purple Haze. Would you all weigh in on this>

I just took a peek at both of them on the hosta library. Pewterware didnt seem to have any purple or red in the petiols. So my guess goes to the Purple Haze.

It disappears after a while, but is very striking the time it lasts. The plant it self would be a stunner without this glitter

Thanks Morgans... I think it is absolutely Purple haze after looking at dozens of photos of it. Whatever, I am thrilled with it!
