Anyone use oxine to disinfect?

Post by flowerchild59 »

I use oxine for disinfecting my chickens coop, adding to their water to keep it clean, general disinfecting and fumigating. It has alot of uses. I will add a link and see what you all think.

Oxine = 2% chlorine dioxide, vs. household bleach = 5% sodium hypochlorite (with a trace of sodium hydroxide). I can't quite puzzle out the relative disinfecting capacity of each, but it should work fine, and might even be more effective against viruses than household bleach. I might want to check the pH of the solution to see that it doesn't corrode the tools (if too acidic). Are you planning to use it full strength to disinfect tools?

There are alot of different dilutions. I think it kills spores and viruses pretty well. Here is another link.

Use a setting of 3.0 fluid ounce of Oxine per gallon of water (1:42) for control of virus and spores.
