Royal Mouse Ears

Post by thy »

Please tell me about it...
I can grow most of them easily, but RME die when I just look at it and Mighty Mouse is so tiny it barely makes it

How is RME compared to the other mouse ears ???

Mine has done reasonably well for 2 years, though I'm not sure it has as much streaking this year as last. There's a pic on the daily hosta thread that has to do with the Blue Mouse Ears family.

I had read it :D , but it didn't say if it easy to grow... normally I kill a mini just by looking at them and Grenn Mouse Ears was a horror story 3 times :(

Was out of town, but am now home. I personally think the entire mouse ears family is highly overrated. Notoriously unstable with a tendency to revert or sport to just about anything. There are many variations which essentially look alike. My 'Cat and Mouse' has totally reverted. Not sure which way my RME is going. The only one which has any size to speak of is BME. I'll keep the ones I have, but have no plans to get more.

Mine is a mess this season and looks just like others that are also messy and need to be torn apart.
Here are Royal Mouse Ears on the left and Holy Mouse Ears on the right. The little one on the far left is Frosted Mouse Ears.

When I was getting photos to post on the "Mouse Family" topic, I noticed how similar some of these are.
Here is Snow Mouse. It was a lot whiter in past seasons.

Here is Blue Mouse Ears Supreme which has looked just like RME in past seasons.

RME has so many different looks to it that I think it's hard to nail down what it should look like. Here are two more "similars" that match up pretty closely to examples in the hosta library.
Here is Mouse Tracks - pretty much shot this time of year.

This next one was labeled One Iota streaked. There is also a One Iota Supreme that can look the same but mine has somewhat stabilized to a white edge form.

I think that came from an auction. The dealer may have been Bentley or streaked hosta.
