I ordered a dixie chickadee and it came in half solid green and half variegated. I split it right in half-so far so good. So does that mean the solid green half is Emerald City Chick?
Yes, that's my understanding. BUT there are many discussions, here, about "sporting" or "reverting" or "stabilizing".
Bottom line - if it is in your garden you can call it whatever you want - just don't pass it on. I got a Dixie Chickadee and some of it goes green, I wouldn't send a piece of the green stuff to an auction with the name Emerald City Chick. That's a registered name by Sebright Gardens for the green hunk that came off their Dixie Chickadee. Your green hunk and my green hunk and Sebright's green hunk are probably the same for this plant.
I have a Ginko Craig that put out a "huge" green sport. There is one registered as Green Smash. The third picture on the Hosta Library looks exactly the same as my green sport. I would like to put some of it up on an auction but I can't and I wouldn't register myself because it's the same plant.

Thanks Ed-So far I have had Ann Kulpa give me a solid green sport, Peanut also did last year-but is fine this year (so far) and now Dixie Chickadee. Is this a common occurrence with all variegated Hostas?
I think, if you have enough hostas, sports will eventually make you a little crazed.
I had 'Peanut,' which was reverting to 'Goober.' Separated that and was able to completely separate the two and replant them. They were in the ground for a two seasons as two separate plants. This year...'Goober' is sporting 'Peanut.' Go figure.
I removed such a tiny piece of Goober it barely had a root so it did not make it. Peanut is doing fine this year-no goobers. Dixie Chickadee had a major sport of solid green so I now have 2 plants and so did Ann Kulpa. So anyway doesn't really bother me, I like surprises.
Reminds me of how I used to refer to my kids when they were getting over colds. ("No goobers!") Oddly enough, my daughter's nickname has always been Peanut, which is why I bought that hosta in the first place.

Thats really funny-and the smaller one of my twin granddaughters we call peanut. The other twin we call Lil' Monkey and now granddaughter #3 on the way-don't know what we will call her.
'Emerald City Chick'- probably the same as 'Crystal Dixie', 'Dixie Chick Green' and 'Per'. And seems to be very similar in appearance to 'Mighty Mite' and 'Tongue Twister'.
