Wow, your 'Komodo Dragon' is quite a bit more upright than mine. Did it get more upright as it matured? I got mine a couple years ago as a single-eye division from a mature plant. It's doing really well, but it keeps a lower profile than yours.

Thanks! David you're to nice. My Hostas are trying to grow up and look like yours. Don't think I am there yet, but I'll keep going and maybe one day have some of the nicest here. Karen, yes this year is the third year I have had it and this year it really got tall. Here's a picture of it the first year I planted it. I got mine from Chris. Back left, just a little guy.

Karen I also remembered the very upright Hostas are in a lot of sun. I believe that also causes them to vase shape more. My sweet Autumn Clematis is taking it's time filling in my trellis. One more picture of the bed, not a great one though. Going to try for better ones tomorrow.

I wasn't aware that a lot of sun could cause hostas to be more upright, but it does make sense. Mine are shaded for most of the day, with a little shot of afternoon sun to perk them up. All of yours actually look more upright than mine, from 'Regal Splendor' to 'Komodo Dragon' and even to 'Geisha.'

Now that you mention it, I moved my 'Paradise Island' into a sunnier spot this year and was surprised by how upright it looks compared to its stance in its old spot. I thought it was just because it's now on a slightly raised bed, but I actually think it's just standing taller. Interesting!

We know we get old when we have to ask the newbees, but... do the creaping jenny give any problems ? The green one is out of controle here, but wondering about the yellow one... what do you do when it comes close to the baseof the hostas

Pia, I was going to ask everyone their opinions on it. Around the Hostas I just pull it out by the handfuls every few days. I'm not nice about it either. I can see it being a pain if you have to much yard work/plants to take care of or lack the energy. Every time I think about pulling it out everyone tells me how much they like it. It also keeps the ground moist and I have no problems with slugs hiding in it. It did start to get into the lawn and I ended that real quick. The only other problem is how to fertilize really. I have a bed with the green stuff and I don't like it. It grows the same if not slower than the yellow, but I don't like the color contrast with it. You do have to be on top of it though or it will go everywhere.

It's looking good, Owen! Thought of you yesterday when I went past Geisha. I like the creeping jenny under your hostas.
I had it in my chicken yard bed for years, but its' pretty much gone, only shows up here and there. The hostas are so close together that they shaded it out.
I love that last pic. Thanks for the big smile this morning.
