Yes, it is very slow. I've seen the rare garden where it makes a decent looking, small clump, but in most gardens it just sits there. Fire and Ice is about the same or maybe even slower. But yours is alive, where lots of them don't even live, so be happy about that :)

Mine seems to do ok, adding a few eyes every year. Of course one year ones those eyes was solid green, which I not appreciate :x . I had a larger Loyalist in a pot ( pretty big when I bought it), which I gave to my FIL, figuring my smaller one in the ground would catch up eventually. Kind of regret not swapping it out now, lol.

Fire and Ice is a dud for me...no growing at all.

Here is a pic I just took. Started with three eyes in 2008, and up to thirteen this year. This is probably about the size of the one I gave to my FIL a few years ago...I have to go over and see how that one is doing.

I looked at my records and it was pretty slow to increase the first few years....seems to have picked up the pace in the last two seasons.

Thanks, Chris...but now I really want to go check out that one I gave to my FIL! I didnt know Loyalist had a bad reputation like so many of the other white centered ones.

I wanted to check my 'Loyalist' before posting. Did just that last night and it's doing beautifully. It seems happy where it is and has seen good growth. I've had it since 2006 and it won't be a huge hosta. It's maybe 10 feet north of an oak tree and at the extreme east side of my lot - 3 ft from the neighbour's driveway where it gets some morning sun. You can track its progress from 2008-12 if you scroll down nearly to the bottom of this page http://violaann.smugmug.com/Garden/Host ... 0_DLprmf/8 and then follow the links to the next page.

Sun can be a key here. My Fire and Ice didn't grow, then Hank Zumach showed a pic of a beautiful "big FI" .. growing in a lot of sun. I moved mine and it started to grow

From pictures taken yesterday. I moved 'Patriot' last autumn so that the two are side by side.
