Hosta of the Day - Toy Soldier

Post by redcrx »

I have a few of these - one in the ground, one in a pot and a couple in troughs.

Toy Soldier is a sport of Blue Cadet. The leaf can develop a third color or "glow" between the center and margin which can be seen in the last two photos.

We've had ours growing in the same spot for several years and this year is the best it's ever shown - fairly dark due to the heavier shade (for now!)

ps. I don't have a hosta list - lessa took them all!!

There were a few years when I wondered why I was so excited to get this hosta. Last year the whole plant got that 'glow', and it was really very nice. It's also a great bloomer. I had given it a prime location near my deck and was thinking about moving it somewhere else, but I think I'll leave it there. It keeps its good looks late in the year, which is another good feature.

Received Toy Soldier in the plant exchange last summer. I really like it and it is blooming.
