Hosta of the Day #2 - tsushimensis

Post by redcrx »

tsushimensis is a species that is mentioned in the latest Hosta Journal in an article about Korean Hosta.

I have two different forms of the plant - a wide leaf and a thinner leaf. ( I may have lost the wide leaf form this season.)

Hosta Registry - not registered - it is a species

I caught this one at the end of its flowering cycle with two scapes and some seed pods. This is the one I have been calling "thin leafed" but this season it's not much different from the other one (just to the left). The main difference is this one has a shiny leaf back while the other one is frosted.

Darn, I was just noticing the "odd" marks in the veins. Hope it's not the X-virus. Could be just some left-over frost damage.

I have been posting these plants for a few years. I have one labeled #1 wide leaf and the other #2 thin leaf. This season the #1 version seemed to have thin leaves and I can't tell the plants apart. This morning I noticed they have different colored anthers. The #1 has darker anthers. Looking back at past seasons flowers, I can see the difference.
