Grand Slam is thought to be a "select form of H. longpipes var. latifolia". (Hmm, this seems to be a variant spelling of longipes - I never noticed the "p" in the middle but it seems to be all over the Web.)
There has been discussion on this forum about a similarity to Marilyn Monroe viewtopic.php?f=1&t=55132&p=477251&hili ... am#p477251
since MM is a type of longipes latifolia seedling. I think Marilyn Monroe has a more rippled edge than Grand Slam.

I have had Grand Slam growing in my garden since 2009.
Here it is in 2011.

And a comparison of the flowers of Grand Slam and longipes latifolia - I was curious.
Grand Slam on the left with longipes latifolia in the center and rupifraga on the right Grand Slam and longipes latifolia have the same flower.
I was comparing with rupifraga because the database write-up mentioned something about rupifraga "in the trade" being longipes latifolia. This flower is definitely different.

Re: Hosta of the Day #2 - Grand Slam
Not really a Grand Slam point but I felt I left something undone in the last post. I didn't have a good photo comparing the 3 flowers from the front only from the side. Here is longipes latifolia and rupifraga from the front. longipes latifolia looks the same as Grand Slam so that's not an issue.
Clearly a difference - rupifraga is lighter and the central color swath does not descend into the center of the flower the way it does on longipes latifolia.
