Hosta of the Day - Stir It Up

Post by redcrx »

Stir It Up is a green hosta with a wavy edge and white-backed leaves. It shows some red on the petioles.

It's a plant from Alttara Scheer. I was noticing how many of her plants I have like Funky Monkey, Scallion Pancakes and Totally Twisted which I posted pictures here.

I got this plant in 2013 and these photos are from that season. I couldn't find any pictures from 2014 - I'll have to check if it made through that really nasty winter - many plants didn't.

I will see if I can find it. Don't know if it's fertile. Zilis doesn't mention it in his "The Hostapedia" and Alttara doesn't register her plants so there is no information there either.

A little bit of serendipity hit today. I went looking for a couple of pots of unknown plants I have in my back raised bed. Didn't find what I was looking for but did come upon a pot that needed some dirt added and moved in to sun. Finding that pot triggered a hunt for another pot in a different bed. While looking for that second pot I came upon a tiny pot of clausa normalis I thought I had but couldn't find. Then I noticed a blue pot buried under an azalea and remember this Stir It Up topic. I had looked for this pot a few times but never came up with it. It is big but didn't flower - too much shade from the azalea and a swamp maple above it. I added some soil to the pot.

I got Stir It Up in fall of 2014, pic taken today. This one doesn't seem to photograph well at all. Maybe that's just my failing, but every pic I have looks blah. Recently moved it to this spot from beneath a lilac where it was getting too much shade.
