I was going over some photos from last season and came across this guy. Now I have to see where it got to in my garden.
Field Rat is a tissue culture sport of 'Flamenco Mouse'. It has pointy ears (leaves).
The flowers are darker than what you normal see on the "Mouse" types.

Re: Hosta of the Day - Field Rat
This one is newly arrived (bonus plant!) and potted up under lights in my basement. All the newbies should be moving outdoors this weekend. I have no idea where I'm going to put them!

Re: Hosta of the Day - Field Rat
Thanks for sharing this one, Ed. You now have more pictures of it than I do
Last year I noticed a lot of branching scapes on Field Rat, so it has a really nice flower display that people always ask about when they see it from a distance. And it multiplies like crazy. Overall I think this is just a fun one to have

The only thing two Gardeners will ever agree on is what the other is doing wrong.
You won't know how to grow a plant successfully until you've killed it a few times.

Re: Hosta of the Day - Field Rat
I'm looking forward to these bloom scapes opening. And I need to find a permanent home for this rodent.
