New hostas for me!

Post by Eleven »

Chris, thank you so much for the gorgeous hostas I got today.

Winter Snow is so beautiful! It's exactly what I wanted. And huge!!!

I hope American Halo brightens up the spot I have in mind.

And My Cup of Tea was so outstanding, I had to pick it up. Can't wait to see how this looks in a couple years.

I'm not sure what's gotten into me this year, but I have all three new hostas already planted.

Here's My Cup of Tea. Just need to even the soil after it's watered in a couple more times, then add back the ground cover.

LOL-I always plant mine right away too. What type of ground cover material is that?

The thing is, I'm usually very behind in planting new hostas. This year, I'm almost caught up!! Just have Royal Wedding, Fall Dazzler, and Inaho waiting right now. Oh, and Pineapple Poll that I pulled from a bed and haven't replanted yet.

Do you mean the ground cover in the first pic? Sedum lineare Golden Teardrop
Or the second two pics? Some pine needles I trying as a mulch

I don't pot to many Hosta so I try to get the planting chore out of the way and put them in their home, not many new ones this year as the ones I put in a year or two ago are getting pretty big and am running out of room
I meant the pine needles, looks so nice and neat. Does it keep the slugs away?

This is my first year trying the pine needles, so no reports on it yet. I was lucky and got them from a house we volunteered at for leaf cleanup in the fall.

I mainly wanted to try it for looks. 1) It provides a nice background for the hostas to really stand out, and 2) my hostas get so DIRTY every time it rains, then I have to hose them off afterwards. I don't have to deal with many slugs, though I sometimes find baby ones munching on the plants I have waiting in pots.

Oh what a great idea regarding the dirt on the hosta, I have the same problem ( now also have the tree debris in all the leaves, nothing can be done about that) I may look into the pine needle mulch just for the splash back if nothing else. Thanks for that idea!
