Re: New garden space

We got clobbered last evening about six the storm front came through. One pine tree snapped about two-thirds the way up. The broken hunk is still up supported by other trees. Luckily it's over the path and my debris pile. And luckily no real damage - a tree falling on my court just missed my neighbor's truck. I haven't been out to see the neighborhood damage yet.

At the base of the tree you can see some of my hosta and the only patch of grass in my back yard.
This is part of my "bird-feeder" garden. To the left (out-of-frame) are my Fragrant Bouquet types and to the right (in frame) is my day lily and phlox garden run a muck. I'm starting to take out phlox in my front flowerbed because they are killing my hardy orchids - the seedlings grow woody bases that choke my orchids.

Checking the broken tree - it's half gone - it was a lot taller than I thought. Another large pine stopped it from coming down on a neighbor's fence.

It wasn't even a year ago that you were cleaning up after the June 2015 storm.
What a mess!

I planted High Fashion and Pin-up side-by-side in my "New Garden" to see if there was any difference. Getting some photos this evening I found that Pin-up's center is a little brighter white. I get some photos in morning light tomorrow.

Here is the "New Garden" this season. These photos are from May 6, so about 3 week ago. The little white fence is missing because I was weeding the space.

This left side should be dominated by the Stained Glass in the top left corner of the garden but it seems to have gotten damaged - maybe it didn't winter well. I haven't seen any chipmunk or vole activity in this area. There is a holly off to the left that might be causing root damage - I need to check that.

I'm adding Marbled Cream and Fall Dazzler to this area. Hopefully the Stained Glass will recover.
