Anyone know what does this?
This is one of my weedlings. Many of these spots are holes in the leaf.
As I was puttig this together the word "thrip" popped into my mind.Ed McHugh, Sicklerville NJ

If it's the same as this, it's not thrips. Chris named it when I had it a couple of years ago, but I've forgotten it. I had it again this year. It's only on one hosta out of 75 or so. You use a systemic for it. It's a sucking insect.

Some kind of weevil? But Black Vine Weevil notches the edges, rather than making pinholes.

I have seen circular edge damage from a bee - it tears up Athena.

Re: Anyone know what does this?
The Four-lined plant bug does this. They tend to stay in the same general area for generations so when you see it in one spot one year it will be in that area the next unless you get them with some insecticide. They are good at hiding from movement and often drop to the ground or run to the back of the leaves when you get near, so you don't always see them.
Re: Anyone know what does this?
Flea Beetles do that. Do you have flea beetles?
Re: Anyone know what does this?
I haven't seen any beetles back there. I wonder if wrens eat them - I know they patrol for slugs.

Flea beetles are very tiny, and jump like fleas. They are hard to see.
Re: Anyone know what does this?
So how do you treat that? A bug spray? A powder of some sort? just curious to know if all I have to do is go and buy a can of Raid or something and spray it on?
Thanks so much! I have something munching on the edges of the hostas (not deer, groundhogs or rabbits).

Re: Anyone know what does this?
Whether four-lined plant bug or flea beetle you would treat with an insecticide. Sevin dust can help, just water it in after a good powder coat, or a liquid or granular insecticide should work too. As was mentioned a systemic type insecticide is usually more effective in the long run.
The four-lined plant bug and flea beetles are both a bit tough to see right away as they hide at any movement and both are fairly small. Small notches taken out of the edges are from vine weevils. Those are a little tougher to control due to their tough shell so choose an insecticide that lists them on the label.

Thanks Chris. I did see your answer, but I wasn't sure what systemic was . I'll take a look and see what combats weevils too.
Thanks again,
