Trouble with gnats or tiny black flys

Post by hostanquilts »

I have quite a few house plants and also started some seedlings but have problems with little black flys or gnats flying in and around them. It seems like years ago when I posted in the Hosta forum quite a bit that someone had posted that either vanilla, or apple cider vinegar or something could be put in a small bowl and it would attach them and they would die but I can't remember exactly what it was. Does anyone here know?

Fruit flies are attracted to apple cider vinegar, but you probably have fungus gnats if they are around the house plants. For fungus gnats I would look for a houseplant (indoor) spray insecticide that specifically lists gnats or fungus gnats. Allowing your potting soil to dry out between watering can help some too, since fungus gnats need moist soil to breed.

Good luck.
