Hosta of the Day #2 - Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

Post by redcrx »

Gentleman Prefer Blondes is a yellow hosta with some "odd" edge coloration - some white and dark marks. It is one of Alex Malloy's plants.

Hosta Registry - not registered

It does show up in one of Don Rawson's lists - the one concerning "Watermarks".

I won this plant at a First Look auction this weekend. The plant has coloration similar to the Gold Standard sports Moonlight and Fire Opal. So I'm guessing it's out of Gold Standard but there are similar "looks" out of other lines like Patriot's Fire a sport of Patriot - but still in the realm of Fortunei.

I was passing by this one today and my brain said "oh that's Aurora's Brother". But it can't be because AB was moved to a garden. Looking at the tag it said Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Hmmm, they are very similar. Both are Gold Standard sports.

Now here is a leaf from Aurora's Brother - similar colors and patterns.

After looking at this, I went and got a photo of a leaf from Dubious Behavior (a Hanky Panky sport of mine) that I thought has a similar "look" to it.
