Hosta 'City Boy'?

Post by Don Rawson »

Does anyone have information about hosta 'City Boy' which is shown on the Hosta Library? The photo was submitted by Matt (no last name). Thank you

My guess would be that it's from Matt Sanders. Check with him (if you have his contact info) or with Dave Chopko.

Why the heck did I type Sanders? Yes, Matt Sanford. But there's also Matt Bendig.

Hi Don,

Not sure if you're still looking, but it was Matt Caudle. A while back there was a guy named Al Belk that was scamming people on Ebay. Don't remember what the scams were, but he was in North Carolina and got a lot of stuff from Leonard Jones' nursery when it closed. After people caught on to Belk and stopped buying from him, the same plants started being sold by a Matt Caudle, who was also in North Carolina. People thought it was either an alias for Belk or a friend of his and wouldn't buy any so Matt Caudle disappeared soon after.

As far as we've been able to find out, we think City Boy was a Leonard Jones plant that was never released before his nursery closed.
