OK folks, what would cause the demise of this large hosta which seemed perfectly healthy last summer? I'm thinking that it was too close to the base of the tree and got crowded out by oak tree roots growing. It's 'Brother Stefan' at various times in 2017. It simply didn't come back and there are no healthy roots. A sad surprise. Most of my 225 (or so) hostas are just fine. I lost one mini, one small one that hadn't looked particularly happy since I divided it in 2011 and I lost a couple seedlings from 2016.
