My Japanese lilac

Post by Tundra_Queen »

I love this tree! I got it in 2001 and it was just a whip, only 2 ft tall.

Last year was the first year it bloomed and it only had about 3 or 4 blooms on it. This year it has many more and it smells wonderful! As soon as I go thru the garden gate I can smell it. It is so wonderful. My mock orange bush is blooming by the back door so I am surrounded by lovely fragrances!

Does anyone know how tall this tree will get. I was hoping it would shade the front of the house which is in the south.

Lucille, last year I cut the blooms off right after they finished blooming. I don't know how I'm going to reach all of them this year cause the tree has grown some and I don't do ladders. Mine is about 8 or 9 ft tall now?

I fertilize it and make sure it gets enough water too. Maybe that has something to do with it. Do u fertilize yours and water it weekly if u don't get enough rain?
