Shrub Peony

Post by Annie »

My shrub Peony is blooming now. I can't believe it's still alive. Couple years ago I moved it, which I have read they are VERY touchy if moved. Then I let weeds/grass grow up all around it last summer. But it's still going strong  Poor thing!

Annie, we have moved many of them in the fall and they just need space!! I'm also confused is this a standard or
a tree? We grow both here and found the trees need more air and space then the others. Here are a couple of
photos as ours are just starting to bloom.

Is there a difference between shrub and tree type? I'm not talking about the normal kind, this is a woody plant.

I think it was labeled "shrub". The name was something like Komatuso  that's as close as I can get to spelling it :)

The woody ones are considered 'tree' peonies; the others which die-back completely in the fall are 'shrub'.

The tree are like John stated woody and grafted. These stay all year round here and just drop the leaves. Where as the others die back or we cut them back once these are done for the year.
