I discoveref this growing in the hedgerow behind my house. I have no idea how long it has been there, maybe it was planted by the previous owner and just bloomed this year because I hacked back a bunch of rosa multiflora that was choking it.... anyway, it is VERY pretty, smells wonderful and I am trying to find out what it is so maybe I can propogate it in my yard.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Can someone please ID this shrub?
My random guess is some form of Halesia?
Re: Can someone please ID this shrub?
I love the guess John, but the Wikipedia says they Halesia leaves are alternate and the flowers are bell shaped. This thing has opposite pairs of leaves and trumpet shaped flowers.

Someone just tentativley ID'd it as "privet". I looked on wikipedia and it certainly looks likely... now I just have to figure out if it is going to be invasive
Thanks for looking!

Re: Can someone please ID this shrub?
Yup. Privet and honeysuckle intertwined. Two invasives (the honeysuckle much more so), as nicely fragrant as they might be.
Re: Can someone please ID this shrub?
Hey, trick question! You said it was a shrub...!
Re: Can someone please ID this shrub?
Privet IS a shrub! And I actually knew what the honeysuckle is.... I have been long battling that beast at the back of my yard. This one was buried beneath some OOC r. multiflora and I jsut hadn't seen it before.
Oh well - it is on the list of noxious weeds in PA so I guess I will be removing it

It is only a weed if it is growing where you don't want it. Of course, if it spreads to where you don't want it, then it will become a weed anyway.
