Believe it or not, I WON this plant at a garden show a month ago. I forgot to ask the name of the plant. Now it bothers me that I do not know the variety. I have gone to two plant nurseries and they have only been mildly helpful, unfortunately. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Is this a Japanese cypress plant?????
It's probably a chamaecyparis obtusa cultivar, but that's about as helpful as saying it's a hosta. There are many, many dwarf cultivars. Good luck.

Try to look up Thujopsis dolabrata or Thujopsis dolabrata Nana for the small one
It looks very much like the ones we call chicken leg tree

Re: Is this a Japanese cypress plant?????
Thank you David and Pia. I will do my homework and see what I can come up with. I keep asking myself "why didn't I ask what the name of the plant was?" But I guess I was just so surprised to be given the plant, I just couldn't think straight!
Re: Is this a Japanese cypress plant?????
It looks like it might be Microbiota decussata, also known as Russian Cypress.
Re: Is this a Japanese cypress plant?????
It does not look like Microbiota to me. Try googling for Thujopsis dolobrata, although that doesn't look right to me, either.

Could it be a dwarf cultivar of Lawson's cypress? I don't know how they ever keep these sorted out, when dwarf forms can look so unlike mature natural forms.

Well after doing more research (and your help), I think I have found the name of this evergreen - Siberian Carpet Cypress (microbiota decussata). Good guess Buckeye! Thank you all!
