Appreciating The Winter Garden

Post by Doris_J »

It's January 1st. What's going on in your garden? Any blooms? Or interesting winter color? Here's what I found in my garden this morning. Please add your pictures!

Here's Callicarpa bodnieri, Beautyberry.

And, Hamamelis x intermedia, Witchhazel. Mine won't let go of the old leaves! I found the first flowers blooming today. It smells great!

You have to appreciate a gargoyle that knows how to age properly. This guy has a nice green "patina"

My Iris reticulata are popping up. They should be blooming sometime in February/March.

Hellebores are just starting to show bud, and some have bloomed!

Yes! You are lucky. All we have here is snow & ice, for green you must look at what you have growing inside. Thanks for sharing. Now to settle in for the long winter's wait...

Dolly, I'm in Washington state, Zone 8. Winters are cold and wet, but not a whole lot of weather below freezing.

lovely just lovely.

but i dont know if i want to give my summer up yet. even tho it is stinking hot here. the thought of a cold winter is scarey hahahahahaha. but i guess our winter is a bit kinder as we dont have snow so the roses dont always go dormant.

The local fire dept. refilling at the 'dry hydrant' on our lake. They just couldn't resist playing with the spray tho. Sprayed water on top of the ice.
