Me & my Casablanca Lily

Post by renaldo75 »

Here are some pics taken this evening. I have no idea why this one grew so tall this year, but it did & it's obviously got a couple inches on me. Huge blooms on it as well. And of course it smells like heaven!! :P

Quite a fragrant cluster. I'd sit out there all evening if the mosquitoes wouldn't eat me alive.

The shorter one started blooming first and all of it's blooms are open now - a few of the early ones are already brown.

O.C. even has a goatee about that long now. On a more serious note, Casablancas are terrific Liliums. Had some bloomed last yearf in a tub on hisz deck. Were not quite THAT tall, and when his dear sweet loving wife Joy,who was also enthralled by their perfume, found out they hadn't made it, she told him to plan on planting her some MORE this fall, or he wasns't going to get to plant any others. Look out Chris, here comes an order by PM tomorrow.

Once again, that has to be oner of the most popular of all the liliums.

John, that Old Coot who LOVES Casa Blancas...

Thanks, Pat. :P The mosquitoes find that spot to be especially peaceful. And they come out to share it with me every time I'm out there.

Did you have to stake your Casablanca lily? I'm thinking of adding a few this fall, and if they need staking, I'll put the stakes in when I plant (so I don't skewer the bulb trying to stake it next spring!)

Akita, that one wasn't staked. I had no idea it would get so tall. The other one is about the height both were last year I think.

Not a bad idea to stake from the beginning, but I would have had to replace the stake for a taller one on this giant. The stem on this one was so thick though that a stake really wasn't necessary.
