Sweet Autumn Clematis, on the deck

Post by Ed_B »

It seems that my back yard is about two weeks behind the front yard plant/zone wise.

This Clematis is just starting too bloom while the one over the mail box has been in bloom for a couple of weeks now.

The trellis is about 12 feet high, and attached to the deck.
We pinch the ends right up until the flower buds start to form

Mine is two years old and the flowers are all at the top. How and when do I prune it?

I prune mine in spring.

I leave about one foot of old growth making sure I have ample buds with new growth showing.

I tip prune right up until the flower buds form.

I give it a good feeding of 10-10-10 in spring, repeating again when the flower buds start to form, "August here"
