Re: Bleeding Hearts
Sorry I missed your post!
The best time to transplant them is when they are dormant which they tend to do in mid to late summer. Otherwise fall or early spring work. I really don't move them when they have green foliage, and especially don't divide them when they are leafed out. But when they are dormant they are a piece of cake.
Again, sorry I missed your post. Have been extremely busy this summer.

Re: Bleeding Hearts
So how do I divide or move a bleeding heart that doesnt go dormant. The one by my backdoor never dies back. It gets all the rain that comes off the roof and its getting way to big for the spot its in. Starting to overgrow my path, over 3 ft around.
Re: Bleeding Hearts
All I know is they have a tap root and are hard to move..exept as dormant and difficult to divide
Sorry, not much help here
In zone 5.. as late as possible

Re: Bleeding Hearts
morgansrgr8, I have moved several while they were still green. I will tell you dig deep around the root, I then will do some hand digging to make sure
the root is not cut. Slowly pull it and replant, but important is not to let it get to dried out.
