Mercury Rising true color

Has any one seen this bloom by chance? Is it more of a brick type red as as found in say Cosmic Eye and hucherelles. Or a softer cherry red that would blend well with pink. I think mine is planted in the wrong spot. Weather is still cool here and I could probably move it if I do it soon. Thank you Pat

Hi Patty,

I haven't seen this one flower, and am a little hesitant to try it myself. There are so many "annual" type coreopsis out there and I'm leery about trying the newer ones...

Sorry I couldn't help.

Chris

This one is in an ongoing trial of coreopsis at Mt. Cuba in Delaware

Not much data yet, but the picture (a real one from Mt. Cuba and not a catalog pic, it seems) looks like a dark cherry red to me. So far it seems well-rated among the vertillata-rosea hybrid group. I'm likely to try some of these once this evaluation is completed.

Thanks Chris,
So far I've only tried Cosmic Eye and Cosmic Evolution. Both came back this year but the jury's still out on second year vigor. So far route 66 is amazingly vigorous in it's second year.

Thank you Tigger I shall leave them where they are. But won't blame you if color isn't cherry red. Kidding around here. Like I said above route 66 is definitely hardy here with great vigor but very brash color. Only have one bed of hot tones that it can be in. Really hope some of the big bang can do well in Northern Illinois. Nothing about are weather is ever the same except that winter will be freezing cold and summer hot and humid.
