Score!

Post by caliloo »

Using the online classifieds, I found someone in my town who is giving away 30 bags of pine straw and loam. He cleaned out his 3/4 acre pine lot and wants it gone!

Thankfully, I have a utility trailer so it is mine.... all mine! Wooo hoooo!

Happy happy hostas this summer!

Sounds like a great soil amendment, but I'm curious to know, what is "pine straw"? Is it just pine needles that you use as mulch or is it something else?

Yep Pine Needles.

But from what I understand, it was several inches deep and the bottom several inches were *black and earthy smelling".

Woo hoo - going to get my black gold tonight!

Okay - 30 bags is a LOT of amendments :o They are those big paper leaf bags filled to brimming.

It took 2 trips with the trailer and now I have 15 bags sitting next to my house and another 15 on the trailer. It is all partially broken down, so I'm not sure it will work well as mulch. I think it will probably go into the compost pile. Now I just need to hit Starbucks every day to layer coffee ground inbetween each bagful. I figure by next spring I should have a yard or more of good rich stuff to use.

Whatever I do with it, I'm glad I got it rather than having it go to a landfill.

Thansk for sharing my happiness!
