Every year we notice that where ever we drop compost in the grass it looks so much better. DH is trying to figure out a way to be able to spread it all over in an even manner. So I told him I would put the question here and see if anyone has some ideas on how to accomplish this.

The lawn here is in very bad condition with no proper care in several years and resodding is out of the question!!

Claudia, you should of seen ours a year ago when the tree came down. Here is what it looks like now! We don't use compost on it, just lime to sweeten it up.

Thy, they work as long as you have those metal spikey things to hold them in place. A lot of those metal spikey things. Matter of fact we took out the scallop edge brick for the black plastic things on the outer back edge of the brug garden and then put the edging up front. My goal is to take out all the timber edging that was put in, which I hate!! Ya know the carpenter ant and termites are heck out there!!

Try spreading the compost on the grass and raking it in as much as possible. Once it is watered/rained on the grass should be very happy.
I know several people who spread bagged chicken or steer manre on the lawn every spring.
