New rose bed

Post by whis4ey »

We have cleared out all of the old roses and are in the process of replacing the soil, as the old bed has been there for some 25 years. New roses won't thrive in the same soil as old roses have been in.
It was a hard days work removing the old roses, and all of the spring bulbs in that bed, and then moving some 20 barrowloads of soil
The second pic is the bed ready for the new soil
I am taking some soil from the vegetable garden, adding three bags of compost, three bags of farmyard manure, a bag of peat, some leaf mold and rose fertiliser
We have bought 12 fragrant red roses 'Lionheart' so the whole bed will be the one colour this time
We should get it all finished at the beginning of next week
