I am to sick to even be mad.
Last night someone "slimeball" drove down the ditch up through the entire length of my seedling bed out the other side up the ditch onto the road again.
Most all the scapes were knocked over, most all the crosses I made this last week with these seedlings were destroyed.
Maybe worst of all is the tags that were ripped up or destroyed. The records of parentage all for nothing without an ID.
I promised to line out a few seedlings because of request. I will not be able to fulfill that promise sad to say.
I am going to cut all the plants back to the ground, and see what I can save.
I may not be posting again for awhile, pretty bummed out right now.
Six years gone in ten seconds or less, the pictures don't show the true destruction but I didn't feel like taking anymore that would.
(PS I will bounce back just need some time)

Oh my goodness Ed!!!!
Perhaps there is more to salvage than you think. At least I'm praying that as you go through the damaged ones you'll find tags still attached and markers still in place just flattened.
Let's hope a police officer spotted him and gave him a ticket!

I feel your pain I had a similar situation earlier this summer although nothing irreplaceable, but I know after I witnessed the damage here I was literally sick to my stomach (the hill washed out in a storm and there were plants washed all the way out into the bog - we were still missing almost 100 plants afterwards and the daylilies that washed out are all unknowns until they bloom next year...)
Hang in there!

Oh Ed! I'm so sorry to see and hear about this! This is one reason I do NOT garden near our road! Not even in the front yard to speak of!
We've had hits and near hits way too often to take chances with even being near the road other than in broad daylight to get mail and even then, we nearly run out and back to insure someone doens't bend over and pick us off as they headed to work, leaving work and making plans on the phone or other such things that have happened. The worse was a double killing by a drunk at 11:00am nearly mid-day. Another one was a head on-roll over between a guy headed to work and another leaving the bar.
I hope you don't let this discourage and pray when you are ready to get out there, you find the mess more organized and tags near where they should be, or at the least many of them!! Good Luck! We're hear to listen if you need to rant or rave.

Oh Ed, I'm so sorry. I hope that you will find that the damage is not as bad as it looks and that most, if not all, are salvagable. I also hope that you will find lots of the tags still intact and in place. It's a shame about the lost crosses. Please bounce back quickly because I will miss your posts and pics. You've been doing a great job of livening up the daylily forum.

I hope the guy ripped out the underside of his vehicle. Sorry that happened, Ed, and I'll send one more hug your way.

Yeah, we considered a stone fence out front not mention a stone mailbox and etc. We were told we would be responsible if someone hit them and was injured in the crash b/c of them! WHAT?
Hmmmmm...I've even heard of 'drunk' drivers suing for injuries that happened from their intoxication while driving and ending up in someone's yard and so forth! It's a nutty world we live in!

Hi Jamie
I don't know if it was a drunk, or some kid who just lost control.
I thought about the metal post or some other obstruction, and decided against it. I figured that somebody who ended up in the ditch was already in some sort of trouble, I do not want to make it any worse. I know I can grow more flowers. I would rather do that then see somebody get hurt by something I did.
Maybe it was better the flower bed got it than some innocent person.
Maybe it woke them up enough to get home.

{{Ed}} You have a very healthy attitude! Congrats! After all the destruction, it's hard for even me not see the bad, so that makes it even more special that you can see the good out of this!

wishiwere is correct about putting up any kind of deterrant that could hurt someone. Years ago we lived near a really nice house (we all called a mansion) that was out of the ordinary for the country neighborhood. Jealous people - who knows who they were - would constantly drive through his lawn and tear it up. So he put a row of rebar stakes at an angle, facing the road, at 45 degree angles, in hopes of blowing out someone's tires. I guess someone woke him up to his liability with the situation and then he removed them. If someone got hurt on his property because of the "booby trap" he would be liable.

I read about a similar thing where someone had to take down their mailbox support that was a brick structure because it could harm someone who would hit it. (the person constructing it wanted a solid brick mailbox support because their mailbox had been run down several times already.....not sure if it was on purpose or not?).
Anyway....I hope the person who did that , didn't do it on purpose, but on the other hand , it's kind of scary thinking they were too drunk to stay on the road!
Sorry for you losses. It's feel realy bad for all the work you've put into it.
